Good deeds have always been a great way to recharge my energy. It feels really great to make someone happy. It is a really strange feeling that tingles on the inside that really helps me keep going. Therefore, acts of kindness help both the giver and the receiver! Here are some acts of kindness that you can try: 1.Say hi to lower status workers: Sometimes we forget to acknowledge the security guy/girl, cleaner, concierge, waiter, etc... Saying hi to these people would probably make them feel better about themselves and the world. 2.Put some change near the vending machine: You never know who might be in a hurry, has no change, and needs a drink to continue his/her day. 3.Help someone who is carrying lots of items: If it is an old man/woman, it's a plus! Not only you would ease their nervousness but also their back-pain. 4.Show directions to a someone who is lost 5.Help someone who needs help: every person has special skills and attributes. You can take advantage of your skills to offer help. You can either do them a favor, or teach them a new skill they need(new language, playing music, etc...) 6.Sit next to an elder and teach him/her how to surf the web: Old people have too little information about technology, so if you teach them to use a device, they can enjoy their time instead of sitting doing nothing. 7.Initiate a conversation with a shy person: Sometimes shy people are just nervous standing among people. They would never initiate a talk. Approaching a shy person makes him/her feel at ease. 8.Buy food for a poor person : it will sure make them smile, especially if they haven't had food for the past 3 days... 9.Smile and make someone smile: if someone is having a bad day, a smile, although a simple act, can make him/her feel better. Endorphins, here we go! 10.Donate blood if your health allows you to do so. 11.Talk to someone you haven't spoken with for a while and checkup on him/her. 12.Sacrifice your seat to an elder: if you are young and strong, let the elders relax. 13.Pay for a parking ticket to someone who's ticket is over: they will smile when they notice they won't pay a punishment fee. 14.Prepare breakfast to the people you live with 15.Listen to a person who is upset: Sometimes, people just need someone to talk to in order to feel better. 16.Help someone get rid of a bad habit (i.e smoking, alcohol, obsessive eating...) 17.Call teachers/mentors who really influenced you: They will be more than happy to hear from you. Even if you haven't talked to them for years, a simple thank you will make their day. They would like to know your current position and they will be proud when they see their mentoring paid off. 18.Giveaway your course material: When you complete a course, giveaway the books if you do not need them. Chances are, someone else needs them. By doing so, you save someone's money and help the environment at the same time. 19.Play with a child: Sometimes all what a child needs is someone to play with him/her. You can read him/her a story or you can join a game of his/her choice. Playing with kids will definitely make them happy; you will feel younger as well. 20.Put motivational sticky notes on mirrors: Phrases like "You are beautiful!","Looking good","Have a nice day beautiful!" can make someone smile. 21.Get food to someone who is busy and probably hungry There are infinite other ways to display kindness. Therefore, this list will be upgraded every once and a while. Please share your ways of making people feel better in the comments! |
