The Lebanese is known for always nagging about the living situation. However, you can always see a Lebanese smiling regardless of the situation. Well, a smile is a really important social feature. Why? 1.Smiling shows people that you are approachable: Sometimes we are not aware of ourselves, but we don't smile as much as we think we do. People always tend to approach those who are happy, and no one wants to share negative thoughts. Smiling gives an impression that you are friendly enough to be approached. Even if you are an extremely positive person, yet you don't smile often, people won't have the chance to touch your hidden positivity. So show it through these shiny pearls! 2.Smiling makes you look confident: A smile is your face's way of telling the world "I'm happy with myself and my surrounding". It shows your satisfaction with your current self, regardless of the flaws. If we look at charismatic individuals, we notice that they all share a broad smile. Whether it is your job interview, work meeting, sales deal, or any other social setting, prepare a wide smile. It would do you wonders! 3.Smiling makes you feel better: Well, I have personally experienced that! When you are feeling down just smile. It always gives me a boost of energy. Interestingly and sarcastically, a study conducted at the University of Cardiff, shows that people who have undergone plastic surgery and lost their muscular ability to frown are actually happier than those who can actually frown. AND NO, it's not because they think they look better. Females who had done Botox injections were given a survey to fill, and even though many of them reported that they do not feel more attractive, they were happier than their counterparts who could actually frown. It turns out that our physical and muscular body parts reinforce how we feel. So "fake it till you make it" does have a scientific base afterall! 4.Smiling is contagious: Once, I was sitting with a group of friends and I decided I want to smile for no apparent reason. I mean, what could go wrong? Believe it or not, we spent the rest of the gathering smiling at each other as we talked! And it feels great to smile and watch the people in front of you smile! 5.Smiling relieves stress: When we smile, endorphins, the happiness hormones, are released. Endorphin ↑ means cortisol ↓ (cortisol is the stress hormone) . So next time you feel stressed out, smile, and spare yourself the stomach ache! Don't be like Saeed |
